KKL-JNF’s photo archive is a treasure trove. Over 200,000 photographs, a number of them rare and of incalculable historical value, are preserved in the archive. Some of the photos exhibited at the 12th Annual Herzliya Conference, are being shown to the public for the first time.
KKL-JNF knew from the very beginning that in order to succeed, it was necessary not only to redeem land, but also to convert hearts. KKL-JNF brought the Zionist dream into the homes and hearts of the Jewish people, by creating the iconic Blue Box, special postage stamps and photographic impressions of the Holy Land. The best photographers were sent to document KKL-JNF’s Zionist enterprise. True, they were paid for their efforts, but as their moving works show, they identified wholeheartedly with their task. Thus, without even realizing it, KKL-JNF laid the foundations for artistic photography in Israel.
